Diabetes And It’s Effects On Your Heart
According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), the heart has 3 functions. One, to pump blood throughout your system. Two, to have a rhythm. Three, it needs oxygen to have the other 2 properties function properly. The products of high blood sugar negatively effect these 3 properties. People with diabetes and pre-diabetes are at a higher risk for heart attack and stroke. Women are 40% more likely than men to have heart disease.
First consult with your doctor before making changes to your present routine.
Things you can do to help lessen your chances of heart disease while managing your diabetes are:
Eat a heart healthy diet - Things like lean meats, chicken - turkey - fish. Healthy fats like extra virgin olive oil (limit use of butter), avocados, etc.
Exercise - Walking in 10 to 15 minutes intervals throughout the day when first starting out. If you're able, doing non-weighted squats, 20 rep intervals throughout the day will help.
Take your medications as prescribed and make sure your visit with your doctor for followup and proper testing to make sure you maintain good health.
Consistency - You must be consistent and not veer off the path. Consistency will get you through.
Be well!
